Urgent Call to Action – House Bill No. 4714 will ban pit bulls in Michigan

On June 7, 2011, the clearly ignorant Michigan State Representative Tim Bledsoe introduced HOUSE BILL No. 4714 .
This bill will ultimately ban “pit pulls” (American Pit Bull Terrier, American Staffordshire Terrier, Staffordshire Bull Terrier ) statewide AND any dog that looks like they might possibly be a pit bull. Initially the first year the legislation is enacted, it will be illegal to breed or sell pit bulls. Then the fourth year all pit bulls in Michigan must be neutered. In the tenth year it will become illegal to possess a “pitbull”.

Representative Bledsoe should already know and understand that negative judgements based solely on appearance are hurtful and unfair, but it seems he’s forgotten and now needs a reminder of the fact that looks-based stereotypes are cruel and venemous and have real-world consequences.
ACTION NEEDED: Contact the individuals below IMMEDIATELY and tell them you do NOT support any breed ban or any piece of breed specific legislation! Tell them you oppose House Bill No. 4714 and urge them to adopt “dangerous dog” laws that rightly target irresponsible owners and not an entire breed of dog.

The bill has been sent to the Regulatory Reform committee. Contact the members of the Regulatory Reform committee and ask them to oppose HB 4714.
